Glorious sadness

“... next time I’m within this storm I’ll be able to experience it for what it truly is. An opportunity to deepen gratitude.”

During a recent conversation with a friend he introduced a term into my world that created order from many pains I’d struggled to place. Moments of pain so deep, so full of velocity, you find yourself in gratitude shortly after. Glorious sadness.

The pain of losing a loved one that leaves you appreciating the time and love shared. Loss of an opportunity that clears a more fruitful path. Fires that give the ground nutrients for the following season.

This flavor of pain is always overwhelming in the moment and for many after. But knowing what I know now, I have confidence that next time I’m within this storm I’ll be able to experience it for what it truly is. An opportunity to deepen gratitude.
